Stone Selection: All Stones
Size: Nothing larger than a 10×12, 2-4 cm thickness
Shape: Rectangle, square, circle, oval, triangle, etc.
Edge Profiles: Straight, beveled, waterfall, round, bullnose, ogee, etc.
Finishes: Polished, unpolished, matte, leather
Granite:
Granite is an all-natural stone with a uniqueness that comes from nature, and other products cannot mimic the random, uniqueness that comes directly from the earth. Many products have comparable hardness and durable, but nothing compares to the natural beauty of granite or its resistance to heat.
Pros: Appearance, durable, heat resistant, scratch resistant
Cons: Porous (stains easier than others), needs sealed, can chip or crack
Quartz:
Quartz is a manufactured stone comprised of a high concentration of crushed natural minerals mixed with resins and pigments which creates a very durable product. Not only are there many patterns available in quartz, but the man-made substance is very hard and nonporous which makes it resistant to staining and bacteria.
Pros: Durable, resistant to chips/cracks and stains, low maintenance
Cons: Discolors over time, not very heat resistant
Marble:
Marble is a metamorphic stone which means it is made with heat and pressure deep within the earth, which makes it very heat resistant. It’s distinctive veining creates a luxurious, elegant look that people love, and some of the high-end products can be some of the most sought after in the entire world.
Pros: Appearance, heat resistant
Cons: Scratches/stains easily, can be pricey
Dolomite:
Dolomite, sometimes referred to as Dolostone, is a sedimentary carbonate stone similar to granite, but it is harder and more resistant to scratching and maintains its properties to resist heat. It has the luxurious look that marble has, but it can be found with a less expensive price tag.
Pros: Appearance, durable, heat resistant, cost
Cons: Scratches/stains easily, maintenance
Travertine/Coral Stone:
Travertine and Coral Stone are both sedimentary rocks that forms limestone, and they have a look that many compare to luxurious marble. They are both highly versatile and can be used on interior/exterior applications; and it is commonly used around pool setting due to not maintaining a high heat value.
Pros: Appearance, durability, does not transfer heat, cost
Cons: Porous, stains easily, maintenance
